How it works

The Army Fitness Test (AFT) replaced the ACFT as the Army's test of record on June 1, 2025. It has five events: the 3-repetition maximum deadlift, hand-release push-ups, the sprint-drag-carry, the plank and the two-mile run. Each event is scored from 0 to 100 points, for a total out of 500.

Scores come straight from the Army's official score tables. You get the highest point value whose standard you meet: lifting at least the listed weight, doing at least the listed repetitions, holding the plank at least as long, or finishing the sprint-drag-carry and run at or under the listed time.

Soldiers in combat-enabling specialties are scored on sex- and age-normed tables and need a total of 300. Soldiers in the 21 combat MOSs and AOCs are scored on one sex-neutral, age-normed standard (the male column) and need 350. Both standards require at least 60 points on every event.

Formula

Total = deadlift points + push-up points + sprint-drag-carry points + plank points + two-mile run points (0–100 each, from the official tables for your age group)

Questions people ask

What is a passing AFT score?

At least 60 points on each of the five events and a total of at least 300 for the general standard. Soldiers in combat MOSs need at least 60 per event and 350 in total, scored on the sex-neutral standard.

What changed from the ACFT?

The AFT dropped the standing power throw, leaving five events, and introduced a sex-neutral combat standard for combat specialties. It became the test of record on June 1, 2025.

What happens if my time falls between two table values?

You get the points for the standard you actually met. For timed events that means the row whose time is at or slower than yours; for lifts and repetitions, the row at or below your result.

Which MOSs use the combat standard?

The Army lists 21 combat MOSs and AOCs, including infantry (11-series), combat engineer (12A, 12B), field artillery (13A, 13F) and Special Forces (18-series). Check the Army's AFT page or your unit for the current list.
