How it works
Enter your pay and what’s on your W-4 to see each paycheck after taxes in New York. Federal income tax is figured with the IRS percentage method for 2026, the same tables payroll software uses, plus Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%).
New York subtracts a $7,400 deduction ($7,950 married) and $1,000 per allowance, then uses the state’s 2026 annual withholding table, which starts at 3.9%. Above $1,077,550 of net wages ($2,155,350 married), a single rate of 10.45% to 11.7% applies to all of it. Your paycheck also shows Paid Family Leave and disability benefits, which are withheld for state programs.
New York City and Yonkers residents have city income tax withheld along with state tax, and nonresidents who work in Yonkers pay a 0.50% earnings tax.
Withholding is an estimate of your tax, paid as you go. Whether you get a refund depends on your full-year income, deductions and credits; the tax refund calculator estimates that. To compare states, use the paycheck calculator.
Formula
Take-home = gross pay − federal withholding − Social Security − Medicare − New York withholding − local tax − state payroll programs − pre-tax deductions
