How it works
Enter your pay and what’s on your W-4 to see each paycheck after taxes in Oregon. Federal income tax is figured with the IRS percentage method for 2026, the same tables payroll software uses, plus Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%).
Oregon subtracts the federal income tax withheld from your pay (up to $8,750, phased out at higher wages) and a standard deduction, applies rates from 4.75% to 9.9%, and takes $263 off the tax for each allowance. Your paycheck also shows Paid Leave Oregon and statewide transit tax, which are withheld for state programs.
Residents of the Portland Metro area and Multnomah County may owe local personal income taxes on higher incomes (Metro Supportive Housing Services tax, Multnomah County Preschool for All tax), which employers withhold in some cases; TriMet and Lane transit taxes are paid by employers, not withheld from wages.
Withholding is an estimate of your tax, paid as you go. Whether you get a refund depends on your full-year income, deductions and credits; the tax refund calculator estimates that. To compare states, use the paycheck calculator.
Formula
Take-home = gross pay − federal withholding − Social Security − Medicare − Oregon withholding − local tax − state payroll programs − pre-tax deductions
