How it works

Pizza area grows with the square of the diameter, so a small increase in size adds a lot of pizza. A 16-inch pizza has about 78% more area than a 12-inch one, even though it is only 4 inches wider.

Enter each pizza’s diameter and price to see its area and price per square inch. The lowest price per square inch is the best value, assuming you will eat or keep the extra.

Crust takes up a larger share of small pizzas, so the bigger pizza usually gives even more of the topping-covered part than the area alone suggests.

Formula

Area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²; value = price ÷ area

Usually 8 slices for a 14-inch large in the US, sometimes 10 or 12 for 16 to 18 inches.

How much pizza per person?

Plan on about 3 slices of a large pizza per adult, or about 3/8 of a 14-inch pizza.
