How it works
Enter the price and size of each product in the same unit, such as ounces, pounds, sheets or count. The calculator divides price by quantity and highlights the lowest cost per unit.
Make sure the units match. If one item is in pounds and another in ounces, convert first (1 lb = 16 oz). For multi-packs, multiply the count by the size of each item.
The lowest unit price is only a better deal if you will use it all before it spoils or expires.
Formula
Unit price = price ÷ quantity
Questions people ask
Is the bigger package always cheaper per unit?
Often, but not always. Sale prices on smaller sizes frequently beat the bulk size, which is why comparing unit prices is worth it.
What unit should I use for paper towels or toilet paper?
Use square feet or sheets, not rolls. “Double” and “mega” rolls vary widely in how many sheets they contain.
Why do shelf tags sometimes show different units?
Stores may list one item per ounce and another per count or per pound. Convert to the same unit before comparing.
