How it works
Enter your current grade in the class, the overall grade you want, and how much the final exam counts. The calculator assumes your current grade makes up the rest of the course weight.
For example, with an 84% now and a final worth 25%, you need an 88% on the final to finish with 85%.
If your teacher drops a lowest score or curves the final, the real number may be different.
Formula
Needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight
Questions people ask
What if the result is over 100%?
The target grade cannot be reached with the final alone. Ask about extra credit, or set a lower target to see what is achievable.
What if my current grade already includes some of the final’s category?
Use your current grade for everything except the final, and the final’s own weight. If the final is part of a larger exam category, use the weighted grade calculator.
Where do I find the final’s weight?
It is usually listed in the syllabus grading breakdown, such as “Final exam: 25%.”
