How it works
Divide the points you earned by the points possible and multiply by 100 to get a percentage. A score of 43 out of 50 is 86%.
The letter grade uses the common US 10-point scale with plus and minus cutoffs at 3 and 7. Many teachers and schools use their own cutoffs, so check your syllabus.
Formula
Grade % = points earned ÷ points possible × 100
Questions people ask
What letter grade is 85%?
On the common 10-point scale, 85% is a B (83–86.99). Some schools use a 7-point scale (A = 93+, B = 85–92, C = 77–84), where 85% is just barely a B and 84% would be a C.
Can a grade be above 100%?
Yes, if extra credit pushes points earned above points possible. The calculator shows the percentage as is.
How do I combine several assignments?
If they are all worth points in the same pool, add up the points earned and points possible across all of them. If categories have different weights, use the weighted grade calculator.
