How it works
Many classes weight categories differently, for example homework 20%, quizzes 20% and exams 60%. Enter each category with your average in it and its weight.
The calculator multiplies each grade by its weight, adds them, and divides by the total weight. If the weights don’t yet add up to 100% because some work isn’t graded, the result is your current standing on what has been graded.
Formula
Weighted grade = Σ(grade × weight) ÷ Σ weight
Questions people ask
Do the weights need to add up to 100?
No. The calculator divides by whatever total you enter. Weights of 2, 2 and 6 give the same result as 20, 20 and 60.
Why is my weighted grade different from my average?
A simple average treats every category equally. A weighted grade lets heavier categories, like exams, count for more.
How do I find what I need on the remaining work?
If one item is left, the final grade calculator can solve for the score you need, using this weighted grade as your current grade.
